In this section, you will find information on what is the Table régionale de concertation de l'Estrie (TRCAE). You will find its mission, purpose, role and history. The TRCAE's (Table régionale de concertation des aînés de l’Estrie) mission is to :
Bring together groups and organisations of seniors i
n the Eastern Townships to favour greater consultation amongst themselves;Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of all aspects of the well-being of the senior population of the Eastern Townships’;
- To encourage the active participation of seniors to society;
- To have their contribution as full members of society acknowledged and recognized.
To transmit the vision of the Eastern Townships’ seniors to the Conseil des aînés and other decision making agencies.
To consult and inform seniors of the Eastern Townhips on issues that are of concern to them and communicate back the position of the TRCAE on these issues.
To initiate and support consulting activities with the Townships' local tables.
Role of the TRCAE in relationship to the local tables
Always in respect with the autonomy of the local round tables, the TRCAE has within its role to : consult, inform, animate and fuel local tables by suggesting activities, maintaining communication links and organising meetings that enable both the TRCAE and the local tables to realize their missions.
The
Commission des aînés et des retraités de l'Estrie is an outgrowth of
the International Year of the Elderly in 1999 and the Regional
Development Council of the time. For many years, the
Commission worked
for the well-being of the Eastern Townships' elders and ensured that they be heard by our politicians.
From February to May 2007, many organisations participated in a consultation process from which resulted in a restructuration. The Commission des aînés
et des retraités de l'Estrie no longer exists. It was replaced by the Table régionale de concertation des aînés de l'Estrie.
The present Board of
Directors is representative of seniors' organisations and is composed of
experienced and dedicated members engaged in all areas of
seniors' services and in defence of their rights.
The board has one representative of each of the 7 local tables of the Eastern Townships and one representative from seven seniors' organisations or organizations giving services to senios of the Townships and one coopted member for a total of fifteen members.
The CA page (in French) shows you who the board members are and what are some of the recent subjects discussed at the board meetings.
The links page has not been translated. We have grouped senior support resources, favouring the ones in the Eastern Townships. You will also find links to government pages (again in French) and health resources. French links page
The first section of the web page, names the resources in alphabetical order of the services they offer (French). The second part lists the resources in alphabetical order of the names of these resources.
Please note that it is your responsibility to excercise due diligence in
dealing with any and all professionals listed on our links page. The
links page goal is informative in nature, the Table régionale has not
verified the quality or professionalism of any of these ressurces.

Every year, the Table régionale hosts the Prix Hommage de la Table régionale to recognize the contribution of a dedicated volunteer, living or having made his/her contribution in the Eastern Townships, 50 years or older and having significantly contributed to the improvement of the well-being, the quality of life, the participation and the recognition of the role of seniors in society.
The individual whom the Table régionale selects then becomes the Township's candidate to the Prix Hommage du Conseil des aînés du Québec, a provincial recognition.
On the web page Hommage (in French), you will find the details of this recognition, this year's winner and other recognition programs such as: The Lieutenant-Governor Medals, and Hommage bénévolat-Québec.
The TRCAE has several important partners.
Through the Ministère de la famille et des aînés, the TRCAE is able to rent an office and hire the services of a secretary one day a week.
The Conférence des Tables régionales groups the 17 regional tables of the province. The regional tables meet several times a year to discuss different issues of concern to seniors.
More information on each of our partners is available on the French section of our site, on the Partenaires page.
This section is not translated. It describes the activities of our members (of the 7 local tables and their members; and of the other regional seniors' organisations of the TRCAE). For more information, see our French page Activités en Estrie.
We encourage you to contact us for any questions regarding membership.
Our newsletter is called Concertation ... en bref. It is published 5 times a year. It contains information on a variety of subjects relevant to seniors : activities of the local tables, grants for seniors' programs, useful links, information, editorial from our President. The Concertation ... en bref is offered free of charge to anyone who asks for it.
To be included on our distribution list, send an email to concertation@ainesestrie.qc.ca and you will receive the electronic version as soon as each issue is published. If you would rather receive it by mail, you may specify it in your email (or contact us otherwise) and we will send the newsletter to you in the format that you prefer (the newsletter is available in French - but a few articles are in English). You can view a summary of every issue and download the actual and past issues on our French page Concertation ... en bref.
Several grant programs are available for organisations who wish to create programs that may contribute to the positive image of seniors, to their active particiption, or to their well-being in general.
These programs include New Horizons for Seniors Program. New Horizons provides for three types of funding: Community Participation and Leadership, Capital Assistance, and Elder Abuse Awareness. Check the New Horizons site regularly to know the dates. We also publish these dates in the Concertation ... en bref newsletter.
At the provincial level, it is possible to obtain financing through the program Soutien aux initiatives visant le respect des aînés (SIRA)
In the fall of 2007, a specific agreement was made between several ministries, the TRCAE and the CRE of each region concerning development funds in each region of the province. For the Townships, this agreement resulted, for the TRCAE, in the hiring of a communication agent 3 days a week and in the development of communication tools. For seniors' programs, a development fund of $ 400,000 over the next 5 years has been set up. For more information or to obtain a form, click here.
